• 2007
    Spencer Hawes, No. 10
The Kings picked Hawes No. 10 overall in 2007. He was traded before the end of his rookie deal for a 1-year rental of Samuel Dalembert. Sacramento was reportedly interested in Joakim Noah and missed him by one pick.
  • 2008
    Jason Thompson, No. 12
Thompson remained with the Kings long enough to break the Sacramento-era record for most games played for the franchise. However, the team tried to replace him as the starting power forward seemingly every year before eventually trading him to Philadelphia for cap space in 2015. (See: Nik Stauskas below.)
  • 2009
    Tyreke Evans, No. 4
Evans won Rookie of the Year, narrowing edging Brandon Jennings and, uh, Stephen Curry. However, at the end of his rookie deal the Kings executed a sign-and-trade shipping Evans to New Orleans for Greivis Vasquez, who was later sent to Toronto in the Rudy Gay deal.
  • 2010
    DeMarcus Cousins, No. 5
DeMarcus Cousins is a two-time All-Star, is very good at basketball and against all odds is still a Sacramento King. Good job, Kings.
  • 2011
    Jimmer Fredette, No. 10
The Kings actually traded down from No. 7 to take Fredette and acquire John Salmons. The Kings, you see, needed shooting and wing defense. (Klay Thompson went No. 11 and Kawhi Leonard went No. 15 in this draft.) Jimmer was waived by the Kings in his third season and is the reigning NBA D-League All-Star Game MVP.
  • 2012
    Thomas Robinson, No. 5
Robinson was one of the aforementioned potential replacements for Jason Thompson and the last pick of the Geoff Petrie/Maloof regime. Robinson was selected ahead of Damian Lillard, Harrison Barnes and Andre Drummond. The Kings traded Robinson 51 games into his pro career, netting Patrick Patterson, who was later included with Vasquez in the deal for Gay.
  • 2013
    Ben McLemore, No. 7
McLemore, now in his third season, has not developed and was dangled heavily at the trade deadline. He's averaging 7 points per game.
  • 2014
    Nik Stauskas, No. 8
Stauskas was a disaster as a rookie. He was included in the 2015 salary dump that also freed Jason Thompson. Stauskas is now a disaster as a second-year player.
  • 2015
    Willie Cauley-Stein, No. 6
    STAY TUNED.
