    Delta's new terminal has some new food options and an expanded ticketing area, but the airline focused most on appealing to a luxury-oriented clientele with this terminal redesign that includes a VIP lounge and premium security lines.

    Redesigned Terminal 2 opens
    LAX has partnered with shopping mall developer Westfield to revamp several key terminals, including the Tom Bradley International Terminal and the newly completed Terminal 2. Arranged into three different "districts" for shopping, dining, and lounging, the terminal promises to give passengers plenty of opportunities to part with their money while waiting on a flight.

    Terminal 4 Connector is finished
    This walkway connecting Terminal 4 to the Tom Bradley International Terminal might not seem particularly thrilling, but it helps to link five of the busiest terminals at LAX so that passengers can make connecting flights without having to go through security lines all over again.

    Curbside Appeal Project wraps up
    Last summer, we saw LED light poles join Paul Tzanetopoulos's colorful pylons as the latest piece of public art making LAX traffic a little more bearable. Other projects, including a new canopy at Terminal 4, are scheduled for completion this year.

    Revamped Terminal 6 opens
    Another Westfield-led redesign, Terminal 6 will be unveiling a new design later this year that is being called "the Boulevard," and is meant to represent the experience of riding west on Sunset "from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Coast Highway."

    United upgrades Terminal 7
    Not wanting to be left out of the terminal renovation fun, United is improving its Terminal 7 concourses with expanded security lines, more comfortable waiting areas, and powered work stations.

    Work finishes on new Terminal 1
    Westfield already unveiled part of its Terminal 1 redesign back in March, with members of KISS on hand to promote a new bar/restaurant in the terminal called Rock & Brews. Further upgrades to the Southwest Airlines terminal are expected to be completed in the next two years.

    Runway improvements completed
    Due to a federal mandate, LAX is widening its runways to make them safer for landing and takeoff. This work is expected to be complete by early 2018.

    People mover starts moving people
    The Landside Access Modernization Program is the one that has the best shot at actually making LAX a tolerable place to enter and exit the city. It includes a people mover system to shuttle people throughout the airport, a centralized rental car facility, and a long-awaited airport Metro station. The plan is to have the project ready in time for the 2024 Olympics, should LA win its bid to host them.
